Shipping thousands of changes doesn't create value on its own. Every change is a bet with a cost, so the real leverage is using your tools to make better bets, not just more of them.
I've merged 3,122 PRs across 12 repositories so far this year, pushing the limits of what's possible while holding on to some key principles I've come by honestly.
But the reality is that most of those commits didn't matter individually in terms of moving the needle, at least not yet.
Each change felt necessary to try to create value, but in reality they are not valuable in and of themselves. Never forget these are all just bets, and the odds are not all the same.
Each change has a cost - in tokens, in time, in what you're choosing not to focus on instead.
I'm increasingly interested in how to use all the tools at my disposal to gather information and improve decision making to make better bets at a fast pace - not just the maximum amount of bets within the edges of what might be considered sane.
Vibe coding is perfect when you're still finding out if anyone wants your thing. Once real usage and real money show up, agents make software engineering matter more, not less.
